Welcome to the Elston Lab

We are part of the Department of Neuroscience at UT Austin. Our research focuses on understanding the neural dynamics that enable cognitive control of behavior. The prefrontal cortex plays a critical role in cognitive control; however, it does not operate alone - complex cognitive behavior arises through interactions between many brain areas. Our goal is to understand how the prefrontal cortex interacts with other areas to facilitate cognitive behaviors such as attention, decision-making, and self-control. Through understanding these basic mechanisms, we aim to create brain-computer interfaces that will enable us to interact with the physiology of cognition.

Join us!

The lab opens its doors in January 2025 and we are recruiting at all levels!

Prospective postdocs and lab managers should contact Dr. Elston directly.

Prospective graduate students must apply and be admitted to either the Neuroscience, Psychology, Computer Science, or Engineering programs at UT Austin.
